We are so proud to announce Phun Bar is growing up and stepping into the ring of heavyweights with the announcement of our brand-new look!

With a new shape wrapped in a standout design we now have the ability to scale up production while utilizing new efficient processes.

Since the beginning of time, our phounder, Jason, weighed out 2oz of product for each and every bar, placed it in the mold then pressed into the square shape you are familiar with. Quite time consuming. Before every pouch got filled the front and back labels had to be stuck on, sometimes not so straight… then yet another handling of the two to fill and seal before date stamping for freshness. The assembly line simply had too many touches and despite the quality the packaging just didn’t scream “energy bar”.

So, what does new packaging do for a small food business? Other than look super dope? It in the catalyst to opening efficiencies scale up production. First, we made some custom trays that can hold 100oz pf product out of the mixer. Way faster than 50 2oz measurements. And we now have a mixer that is 3 times as big. The largest batch in this mixer will top out at 150 bars: still quite small in the grand scheme of things. And come to find out, reshaping the bars and cutting them to 2oz is much harder than it first seems. And believe it or not there is a legal 20% margin of error for weight in this category! 

Less oxygen in the bag plus the addition of Guar Gum gives us an extended shelf life. Guar Gum? Yep, a powder that comes from a bean of the same name that has the quality of retaining moisture in foods. Almost a year ago Phun Bar began working with food scientists from Colorado State University to find a “real food” preservative to keep the bars chewy and fresh. This gives us the opportunity to ship Phun Bars coast to coast because we have the flavors wanted by the most.
