At Phun Bar, we’re more than just energy bars with a purpose —we’re building a community of athletes who thrive on positivity, performance, and pushing boundaries. This is our very first Athlete Spotlight, a new series where we highlight inspiring members of the Phun Bar fam.
Meet Kyle S., currently training for the epic Cocodona 250, a 250-mile ultramarathon that demands relentless endurance and smart fueling. Kyle found us through another very popular ultra runner on social media, and his energy has been electric ever since.
We asked Kyle what drew him to Phun Bar and how it fits into his training routine. His answers? Real, motivating, and exactly why we do what we do.
💬 “They are super easy on my stomach throughout really long efforts. The best part though is definitely how they taste. I’m really excited to have them as part of my Cocodona nutrition strategy! .” – Kyle S.
Thanks for trusting us on your journey, Kyle. We’ll be cheering you on every gritty, glorious mile.
1. What is your favorite trail to run?
Easiest answer ever: the Bruce Trail. More specifically between Flesherton and Kimberly, Ontario, Canada
2. How did you get into Ultra running?
I bought a road bike and rode a tonne through the spring and summer when winter came around I was looking for a way to cross train. I ended up liking running more, started doing it every day (1370 days and counting). The first race I signed up for was an ultra…I DNF’d spectacularly but from there I was hooked.
3. What are the biggest challenges you have encountered ?
Definitely balancing a high intensity job with training and family life. We have an infant son now and he’s my number one priority. Lots of early mornings to make sure I’m around as much as possible while he’s awake!
My run streak has also faced its challenges including a mangled ankle, COVID and other sickness.
4. What was the strangest experience while on an Ultra run? Hallucination, out of body experience?
One day I wanted to run to my parents house from my place. Around 55km in to the run I got real runners high for the first time. I was crying uncontrollably with happiness… it was bizarre.
5. What advice would you give to other Ultra runners?
Make training fun. The easiest way to get better is by enjoying your training. If that means running slower on your easy runs do that. Running doesn’t need to be super hard and suck all the time. Consistency is everything to me, that’s why I maintain the run streak through tapering and race recovery…I’m also a bit addicted.
6. What do you like about Phun Bars?
I was excited about the calories, simple ingredients and supporting a small business. They are super easy on my stomach throughout really long efforts. The best part though is definitely how they taste. I’m really excited to have them as part of my Cocodona nutrition strategy!
